CSKA sue United over Berbatov payment

CSKA Sofia have filed a lawsuit with FIFA over money they claim is owed to them from the transfer of Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham to Manchester United.

Introduced in 2001, 'solidarity' payments are a form of compensation to clubs that train players from a young age when the player goes on to have big money moves. Even though CSKA are not involved in the transfer to United, they could still be owed some money.

CSKA claim £475,000, but the two clubs cannot come to an agreement, and so there will be a hearing at the end of the month with FIFA to decide what payments, if any are to be made.

Berbatov went on to play for Bayer Leverkusen, for an undisclosed fee and Tottenham Hotspur in a £10.75 million deal before joining United for £30.75million. His first club, Pirin Blagoevgrad were paid 50 footballs and 20 pairs of boots by CSKA Sofia.
