Florentino Perez might only have been back in the job since Monday, but the Real Madrid President has re-launched the Spanish giants bid for Cristiano Ronaldo.
What I want is for many of the best players in the world to play with us,' said Perez. 'Cristiano would be one of them. I'm going to work so that Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo can be with Real Madrid.'
There have been suggestions that a deal had already been agreed with his predecessor, Ramon Calderon, which would net United around £75 million, though Perez was quick to denythat such a deal was in place;
'I've been here for two days and neither (previous president Vicente) Boluda or anyone else told me anything about this.'
If true, United could look forward to a world record fee which would no doubt help with the mounting debt issues, but would lose the most influential player of the last few years. It's highly doubtful that Ferguson would want to let go of the mercurial winger, at the very least unless he were given promises that he could spend the proceeds on his squad.
Were Ronaldo to leave, given the length remaining on his contract, United are holding all the cards, and would be able to dictate whatever terms they felt. Letting go of a talent such as his though would be a calculated gamble.
