United look to secure new shirt sponsor

As the recession takes its toll on current shirt sponsors AIG, United have moved to secure their replacement.

Insurance giant Aon are claimed to be '90 percent certain' to be the next sponsors, in a deal that would earn United over £20 million a season, a huge increase on the current £14 million a year deal with AIG.

An un named 'insider' told the Sunday Mirror, "Talks have gone well and it's 90 per cent certain that Aon will be United's new shirt sponsor.

"Whether it happens next season or the year after is yet to be decided,"

It would be somewhat odd if AIG were replaced with a year left to run on their deal, but with the recession hitting them hard, AIG might well decide that the £14 million payment due isn't worth it, and United would no doubt prefer to start immediately a deal that increases their income.
