Tevez turns down United, despite good offer

Carlos Tevez officially moved on from Old Trafford today, even though United eventually offered the required fee, and offered him a pay packet that would have put him as one of the best paid players at the club.

The Argentinian striker blamed the club anyway, suggesting that they should have come in sooner. The five year contract offered by United was rejected when they asked for an immediate answer, which probably leaves the club wondering why they even bothered. If Tevez couldn't make up his mind after 2 years if he wanted to stay at Old Trafford, then United are probably better off without him.

Those words are difficult to say for me, having gone from determined rejection of the player, on the basis he was forcing Alan Smith out, to total adulation as a result of his performances. But if a player doesn't have their heart in it, best to let them move on.

Still, that he will likely join Manchester City doesn't leave the best taste in your mouth. Liverpool have been rejected, 'out of respect' for United fans, and although City aren't considered title challengers, they are still definitely one of the biggest rivals.

Tevez though, seems set for yet another underdog story, apparantly one of the attractions for him. With any luck, Tevez will help Mark Hughes establish City in the top four, just in time for whenever Alex Ferguson steps down. Sparky moving in the other direction to Tevez would be, if nothing else, amusing to see.

It's probably best though to remember the good times. Despite the end, Tevez had 2 good years at United, and was this seasons runner up in the United Lounge Player of the Year award, and won the August and May Player of the Month awards to boot. The player may be gone, but the memories remain.
