Manchester United this morning accepted a bid of £80 million from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The statement from United said that "At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player."
Whilst the club will not comment further on the matter, it's a move that has the football world talking. Are United really that hard up? Was it the right time to sell a player who doesn't want to be at the club, and for the biggest transfer fee in history? Is Ronaldo about to make a monumental mistake?
Well, we know the answer to the last one is yes, but the rest are all up for discussion. The only stumbling block to the transfer it would seem is if Ronaldo and Real cannot agree personal terms, but at a fee of £80 million, you'd think that Madrid would agree to give him the Moon on a stick.
