Will Wellbeck be a United regular next season?

It certainly seems as if he might be if we believe what Alex Ferguson has been saying.

In an interview with The Times, Sir Alex enthused about his prodigy, tipping him for a spot at next years World Cup;

“Danny’s a certainty to make it to the highest level," Ferguson enthused in The Times.

"I've told Fabio Capello the boy will be in his World Cup squad next year.

"Wide left or right or through the middle, he has the intelligence, guts, athleticism, determination and talent to do the job.

“He’s going to be a big lad. His height is about 6ft 1in now but the prediction is he’ll be 6ft 3in. He’s yet to get the conformation in his thighs, so he is still gangly, but he’s brave enough to carry that. When he completes his growing, he’ll really be something."

High praise indeed. But it does make you wonder exactly what next season holds in store for the 18 year old. After a stunning goal on his debut, he notched up a further 8 appearances, and looks set to claim a more regular place next season.

With what seems the imminent departure of Carlos Tevez, could Ferguson be prepared to put his faith in yet another youth player rather than splash out on a big money replacement? Watch this space.
